The MEDIUM SIZE Ecoflap floor vent air deflector (EAD) is for covering 5.5 inch x 11.38 inch (and smaller) floor heat registers (vents) while the LARGE SIZE is for covering 5.5 inch x 13.5 inch (and smaller) floor registers. Please measure the face of your vents to make sure you select the correct size. To use on smaller vents, the EAD can be cut with fabric scissors or a sharp utility knife & a metal straight edge. The EAD works by self opening and closing against a floor heat register (vent) with the flow of air through the vent to prevent the backflow of air thru the vent into the ductwork where it’s lost in uninsulated ductwork and/or flows to a different level of the house depending on whether its heat, AC air or humidified air (referred to herein as treated air). To further prevent the undesired movement of treated air within a home, doors to bedrooms and other rooms should generally be closed. However, in some situations such as a cold bedroom it may be desirable to keep the door open if most of the heat entering the room enters thru the door as opposed to the room’s floor vents. Accordingly, to optimize treated air distribution in a home some experimentation with doors is advisable. The EAD also enables easy monitoring or detection of a dirty furnace filter. This is done by simply taking a mental (or cell phone) pic of the EAD in its fully open position which is the position the EAD will be in when the furnace filter is new. When the EAD fails to reach this fully open position the furnace filter is dirty and should be replaced. The EAD should also work with most floor register booster fans to prevent the backflowing of air into ductwork through the booster fan when the booster fan and the system’s HVAC fan shut off.
